In 1852 17 year old Anna Rose Sigler, considered by many to be the most beautiful girl in Shenandoah County, if not in the entire Valley, has decided it is time for her to get married. Finished with school, she realizes she has few other options for her future. Normally, a girl as beautiful as Anna Rose should have no trouble attracting suitors, but she is the great-granddaughter of Maggie Frick, the famous and feared, Maggie Frick. Maggie was an Indian fighter and hero at the age of 12 when the county was on the frontier, married one of the richest men in the Valley, inherited his fortune when he died, and Irtenlarged it, shot and killed her second husband protecting a fifteen year old servant girl, and married a third time at 75. In 1852 she is 97, and although frail, hard of hearing, and almost blind, she still has an aura of invincibility about her, and the reputation of a woman who would, and could, do anything to protect her favorite great-granddaughter. It is a lighthearted romp of Anna's suitors trying to go around Maggie, trying to get in each other's way, and hoping to keep their true motives from Anna, all set in the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.
